Richard Zapulla’s heart disease escalated quickly to the point where, within months, he couldn’t walk 15 feet without running out of breath. By the time he was referred to the Jim Moran Heart and Vascular Research Institute at Holy Cross Hospital, he needed to have a valve replacement. Richard has since lost 75 pounds, takes long walks with his wife and has returned to work as a security officer and an usher at his church.
“The patient care was fantastic,” says Richard. “I’m feeling great now and adjusting to my new life. I’m a success story!”

At the Jim Moran Heart and Vascular Center at Holy Cross, we offer the latest in high-tech cardiac care. We are also the first Florida hospital to offer the 256 iCT for Cardiac CT Angiography. This provides doctors and patients a powerful tool in assessing heart disease and heart attack risk, providing the most detailed images of the heart allowing detection of life-threatening illnesses before they become life threatening. In addition, we have equipment that provides induced hypothermia, regular and stress echocardiography, nuclear stress tests, holter monitors, tilt table testing, cardiac catheterization, peripheral angiography and vascular ultrasounds and comprehensive electrophysiologic testing. We also have the only NOGA Imaging Systems in South Florida, which is essential to adult stem cell and other research. For more information visit our Technology page.
