Nursing
“I became a nurse because of my love for people. I knew that I wanted to dedicate my life to care for others and become an advocate for patients in times of need.” – Holy Cross Hospital nurse.
In 2003, the American Nurses Credentialing Center named Holy Cross Hospital as a recipient of the Magnet Hospital designation, which recognizes health care organizations that provide the very best in nursing care. This made Holy Cross the first hospital in Broward County to earn this distinction. In 2008, Holy Cross was re-designated through 2012. Magnet designation validates that we are providing the highest level of nursing care available through an organization that’s dedicated to ever-increasing levels of patient satisfaction. In addition, 37.5% of Holy Cross nurses providing direct care and 51.1% of Holy Cross nurses in leadership positions have specialty certifications. And every nurse at Holy Cross providing direct care has an advanced degree. This kind of quality care-giving is essential to healing. A gift to nursing is caring for those who care for you.
Nursing Campaigns
Institute for Nursing Excellence
Critical shortages in the nursing profession are projected to worsen significantly nationwide in the next decade with Florida among the most severely affected states. Nurses continue to leave the profession for less stressful positions, and young men and women are forgoing the nursing profession and choosing other career opportunities. Further adding to the shortage, a significant number of nurses will be retiring. With designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Magnet Hospital since 2003, our spiritual commitment to patient care and our strong reputation for quality physicians and staff, Holy Cross Hospital has attracted and retained top quality nurses for over 50 years. In order to continue providing the best care for our patients, the Institute for Nursing Excellence (INE) was created in 2006. Funded solely through philanthropy, INE offers scholarships for students to attend nursing school, to provide opportunities for existing nurses to obtain advanced degrees, to provide specialty training programs including critical care and to help nurses obtain their specialty certifications. Last year over 200 of Holy Cross’ healthcare professionals received education or certifications through INE. You can make a difference. Make a gift today and help ensure the legacy of nursing excellence at Holy Cross for years to come.
Nursing Research
The Nursing Research Mentorship Program is a collaborative partnership with an academic university to promote clinical inquiry, establish a formal foundation and structured process for nursing research and to enhance a professional practice environment. The goal of the program is to promote and produce high-level nursing research focused on and contributing to improving patient outcome, quality of care and the enhancement of the practice environment. Please consider supporting the start of this robust and sustainable nursing research program at Holy Cross.
Technology
Nurses and clinicians can learn procedures and protocols using simulated models of people in our upcoming Simulation Center. Our healthcare professionals currently utilize Sim Man, who mimicks real human conditions and emergencies of a male including heart attacks, stroke and commas and complications that may arise throughout, such as cardiac arrest. In a project that will be funded through philanthropy in four phases, an entire Center of simulation males, females and children will be created to help prepare healthcare professionals. We urge you to consider funding this important initiative for the advancement of the nursing profession.
