Orthopedics

Most surgeons, in my experience will give you eight minutes of their time,” says Ed, a knee replacement patient at the Holy Cross Hospital Orthopedic Institute. “[Dr. Roche] spent probably 40-45 minutes with us. He answered every question I could possibly think of. He was just great! [After the surgery] I never suffered pain, it’s incredible! My knee worked beautifully. After three weeks, I played nine holes [golfing] and as far as I’m concerned, I was recovered. I feel that I’m a great deal younger than 86.”

Our award-winning orthopedic services and expert physicians and surgeons allow us to restore our patients’ ability to walk, run and enjoy their active lives without pain through innovative research, cutting-edge technology and compassionate care.

Technology

The Holy Cross Orthopedic Institute was the first in the world to offer MAKOplasty, a minimally invasive partial knee resurfacing procedure used to treat early to mid-stage osteoarthritis of the knee. In addition, we are the first hospital in Florida to offer patients multicompartmental knee resurfacing. The new MAKO RIOTM robotic arm system allows our expert surgeons to keep as much of the original knee as possible, while the MAKO Restoris system restores natural knee function. The RIO System now makes possible resurfacing of the medial, patellofemoral, or both components of the knee. Through the use of these types of robotic surgical systems, surgeons are able to perform complex surgical procedures with minimal pain, shorter recovery times and minimal scarring. Help us continue to provide these important technological advancements by donating today.
