Bariatrics
For patients more than 100 pounds overweight, bariatric surgery can be the answer they’re looking for to help lose the weight and maintain a healthier life. Holy Cross Hospital’s Comprehensive Bariatric Services is the leader in obesity surgery, gastric bypass surgery and weight-loss surgery. Our surgeons have performed weight-loss surgery on more than 5,000 people, helping them to lose more than 660,000 pounds. Help support Bariatrics at Holy Cross and give the gift of health to our patients.
Diabetes
Almost one million adults (7.6% of the adult population) have been diagnosed with diabetes in Florida (2002). Diabetes is the sixth leading cause of death within the state (2002) and the leading cause of blindness in adults, end-stage renal disease and lower extremity amputations. 9,000 Floridians die each year due to complications of diabetes. Data suggests inadequate access to preventative health care among low income diabetics which in turn is related to difficulty in obtaining indigent care, child care, transportation and paying medical bills as well as higher prevalence of health risk behaviors. The economic burden of diabetes in Florida was over 600 million dollars for Medicare alone in 1996-97. Your generous donations to the Diabetes fund will allow the Holy Cross Hospital Community Outreach Department to begin a community-level diabetes program inclusive of: outreach, screening, education, access to care and follow-up services.
Home Health Care
Holy Cross Hospital specializes in providing a full range of home health services according to individual needs and encouraging maximum rehabilitation and independence. Our staff, specially trained for in-home care, work directly with the patient’s doctors and family to establish a comprehensive recovery plan and determine a patient’s full range of home health benefits and order appropriate equipment and supplies.
